Huisgenoot / You - 15 November 2012

Vele helde, ligte werk.

Skrywer Deon Meyer besoek Philippolis

Two lucky readers and their partners joined South Africa’s most successful crime author on an exclusive BoekBedonnerd Crime Bus trip through the Karoo. If you’re a fan of crime fiction, you’ll be waiting desperately for the launch of South African crime-writing supremo Deon Meyer’s latest book, 7 Days. To celebrate, two FAIRLADY readers and their partners  joined him during October for a once-in-a-lifetime book tour from Johannesburg to Booktown Richmond in the Northern Cape, where he launched 7 Days.
Meyer shared his beloved Karoo and stories from his writing life, and told about his new book. They stayed at Starry Nights Karoo Cottages in Philippolis, the Stellenbosch of the Free State and birthplace of Sir Laurens van der Post, with a memorable Karoo lamb dinner in Oom Japie Se Huis, also home to one of the finest book-stores in South Africa.

Cleaning up Philippolis

Nuwe padtekens...

It gives us pleasure to confirm that Friday 21 Sept 2012 was indeed a momentous day in the history of the pretty town of Philippolis.

We were honoured by the presence of our Mayor, Mr Xolile Matwa, our Municipal Manager Ms Lebohang Moletsane, our speaker Ms Matana Masana, our unit manager Ms Hadinkame Ramakoae and the other officials of the Kopanong Local Municipality. Our Bergmanshoogte children sang the Anthem with us in a packed Town Hall. The launch of the Philippolis Cleaning and Revamping Initiative was indeed a turning point for our town. Positive cooperation between the community and our Kopanong Municipality is the answer to many challenges. Our farmers, our workers, our business people, our housewives, all our people are taking hands. United we will stand. Together we are taking ownership of the responsibilities we are facing as residents of the oldest settlement in the Free State.  We want to forget our differences and work together as a diverse but united people.....read more
