PILIPPOLIS STOOKFEES
WITBLITS FESTIVAL

sponsor
Die oudste dorp in die Vrystaat vier 21 jaar van
Witblits Stokery - 'n fees soos geen ander nie - die Philippolis
Stookfees
|
This year’s festival will be held on Friday
and Saturday 20 and 21 April.
 |
The festival will take place along a
kilometre of Voortrekker Street, the town’s main street, which will be closed
for the period. As well as witblits tasting, there will be a kaleidoscope of
events to give enjoyment and enchantment to the young, the not-so-young, the
thirsty, the hungry, the energetic and the not-so-energetic.
R20 (adults); R10 (children)
The Philippolis event is unique in that it
is South Africa’s only festival at which witblits is actually distilled. The
Transgariep Museum in the town has a witblits distilling licence and
demonstrations and actual distilling will take place during the two days of the
festival.
This will be the historical town of
Philippolis’s 21st witblits festival. The first settlement in the Free State,
Philippolis dates from 1822, when the London Missionary Society established its
first outpost across the then Ghariep River.

Unique in South Africa!!
The only legal jail break in
the country.
Participants (or convicts) escape from the original 1872 jail in Philippolis and have to cover
80 km of rugged terrain (run, cycle, swim, absail
etc.) within a period of 12 hours. There will also be a "prison guard"
army who will tag and penalize the "convicts" in the event of them being
captured.
(R400 per team of 4)
More than R10 000 worth in prices |
Visit Tiger Canyon!!!
Get up close to the tigers - great photo opportunities - learn first
hand from maverick conservationist and filmmaker John Varty about his
ground-breaking conservation programme with endangered Tigers.
To avoid putting undue stress on the tigers, there
will only be tours available on Friday and Saturday evening |
 |
The exclusive late afternoon visit is followed by a 4x4
drive (in JV's Land Rovers) to the canyon where you will be able to watch the sun set over
spectacular rock formations and enjoy good food and wine under the Karoo
stars. Watch some of JV's film footage and hear the story of his life
experiences with the big cats while you sing-along round the camp fire.
